“Photography is an art of observation. It's about finding something interesting in an ordinary place… I've found it has little to do with the things you see and everything to do with the way you see them.” - Eilliott Erwitt
As the name indicates, I have an unending curiosity about all things in nature and I choose to express that through my photography. I don’t believe in limiting what types of images I capture, and so I’ve broken the site into four main areas of nature and how we humans interact with it.
Born and raised in Southern California I learned photography while working at a TV station in the Bay Area during college. What started out as a job taking “art photos” of Winnebagos and used cars for TV ads became a passion of mine creatively.
I moved to New York City in 1979 which was probably the most exciting and stimulating time to be a photographer. I was able to travel a lot then and captured everything I could with my Nikon camera and a single 50mm lens.
Photography took a back seat with kids and a career and I’m back at it again and starting to build my site. When people say “I’m a street photographer,” or a “landscape photographer” I just go back to when I started where one was just a photographer and you took pictures. My goal has always been to try to keep it simple and enjoyable.
Thanks,
Gerry
